Meet the ‘King Jeongjo’: South Korea’s Newest Warship Ready to Defend the Seas

BEMIL Views

“Strike First! Stand Last!” is the slogan of South Korea’s Jeongjo, the Great-class destroyer. It embodies the determination to strike enemies first and defend the nation’s seas until the very end. The next-generation Aegis destroyer, equipped with ballistic missile interception capabilities, was officially commissioned on Monday. This milestone comes 11 years after the decision to procure the ship in December 2013.

From conceptual design to basic design, construction, launch, and testing, countless individuals dedicated their sweat and passion to creating what they aimed to make the world’s most potent warship. Jeongjo the Great faces its final hurdle of deployment and integration into the fleet. With pride in being the most powerful force protecting the nation’s seas, the crew of Jeongjo the Great will navigate all challenges with wisdom and resilience.

On Tuesday, crew members raised the commissioning flag on the mast during the commissioning ceremony held at the Busan Naval Operations Base.
