South Korea’s Army 31st Infantry Division has joined forces with relevant agencies to establish an impeccable coastal defense posture.

The division announced on Tuesday that it would conduct joint inspections on Monday, in cooperation with the West Sea Coast Guard Regional Headquarters, Mokpo Coast Guard Station, and Mokpo Customs, of vulnerable areas prone to smuggling and illegal immigration.

The inspection was organized to prevent international crimes, such as smuggling and illegal immigration via coastal routes, and to strengthen the cooperation framework between the Army and the Coast Guard.

During the inspection, the division focused on locations with a history of illegal entry, assessing current trends and evaluating the effectiveness of local reporting networks. They also reviewed closed-circuit television (CCTV) installations, verifying their locations and data retention periods with Coast Guard officials.

The division explained that the activity fostered consensus on the need for collaboration with the Coast Guard while facilitating close discussions on information sharing and coordination strategies.

Lieutenant Colonel Jeong Yeon Woo, the division’s intelligence officer, stated, “We will continue to conduct inspections of vulnerable areas to establish a seamless coastal defense posture. Moving forward, we will do our utmost to protect the nation and its people’s lives from various threats.”
