ROK and U.S. Marine Corps Commanders Pledge Stronger Cooperation for Indo-Pacific Security

Commandant Joo Il Seok of the ROK Marine Corps and U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific (MARFORPAC) Commander Lt. Gen. James Glynn exchanged views on regional security. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two nations’ Marine Corps.
During their coordination call on Tuesday, the two commanders discussed the dynamic security environment in the Indo-Pacific region and underscored the importance of joint training exercises scheduled for 2025.
Both sides agreed that continuous efforts are needed to enhance interoperability between the ROK and the U.S. Marine Corps, including expanding combined exercises across various operational domains.
Lt. Gen. Glynn highlighted the critical role of both Marine Corps forces in maintaining a free and peaceful Indo-Pacific. He also requested the ROK Marine Corps’ interest and support for the upcoming Pacific Amphibious Leaders Symposium (PALS) in July 2025, which will be co-hosted by the U.S. Marine Corps and the Philippine Marine Corps.
Commandant Joo expressed appreciation for MARFORPAC’s dedication to strengthening combined operational capabilities and emphasized the importance of continuing close military exchanges and cooperation based on the shared values of the ROK-U.S. alliance.
