From April 28 to May 1, the Artillery Brigade of the ROK Army’s 25th Infantry Division conducted a bilateral tactical training evaluation using the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) at the Mugun-ri Training Grounds in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.
The training exercise mobilized various combat assets, including K55A1 self-propelled howitzers, K77 fire direction control armored vehicles, K56 ammunition resupply vehicles, and reconnaissance and attack drones.
Divided into Blue and Yellow forces, the batteries executed real-time damage assessments, position shifts, “shoot and scoot” tactics, and decentralized position operations to improve their survivability and mobility. Soldiers used MILES gear to assess their combat effectiveness in real time, enhancing their sense of battlefield realism.
Notably, the unit deployed mobile response teams utilizing the K877 wheeled command post vehicle, part of the Army TIGER modernization program.
Sergeant Kim Dong Hyun, a forward fire control noncommissioned officer, commented that the training felt more realistic, as it allowed for monitoring engagement results even while conducting security missions during ammunition resupply. Captain Kim Sang Il, the battery commander, said the exercise served as an opportunity to revisit not only artillery firing procedures but also communications and observation, key elements in artillery operations.
The unit plans to continue realistic training to boost its firepower combat capabilities and maintain full readiness to carry out assigned missions successfully.
