The 24th rotation of South Korea’s Akh Unit, deployed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has completed its first joint high-altitude parachute training with the UAE Armed Forces. The two nations’ military personnel enhanced their joint operational capabilities by overcoming extreme environmental challenges such as high heat and desert terrain.

On May 9, the Akh Unit announced that its high-altitude team and UAE Special Operations Group (71SOG) members had successfully carried out the joint high-altitude parachute training from May 5 to May 8.

The training was designed to enhance airborne infiltration techniques and tactical skills. The exercise began at Training Ground OMD#24 near Abu Dhabi, with both forces boarding a UAE Twin Otter aircraft. Once the aircraft reached 12,000 feet, personnel from both countries leapt into the sky, performed skilled aerial maneuvers, and landed precisely on the designated drop zone.

Sergeant First Class Lee Hee Je of the Akh Unit’s high-altitude team expressed pride in the success of their first joint parachute exercise, noting that every team member completed the mission safely. He added that the realistic training helped the unit build the capability to operate effectively in the extreme heat and unfamiliar desert environment.

Colonel Lim Ji Kyung, head of the UAE Military Cooperation Group, stated that the Akh Unit will continue expanding joint training with the UAE Armed Forces and emphasized that these efforts will strengthen military cooperation based on mutual trust.
