UAE Rides in the KF-21 to Assess Flight Performance… Could It Become Boramae’s New Partner?

On April 16, a delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Air Force visited the headquarters of Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) and boarded South Korea’s next-generation fighter jet, the KF-21 Boramae, to assess its flight performance firsthand.

KAI announced on April 17 that the UAE Air Force delegation toured the company’s headquarters and inspected major aircraft production facilities, including those for the KF-21 and FA-50.

This visit was part of ongoing exchanges and cooperation between the two countries’ air forces. The delegation reviewed South Korea’s aerospace technology while observing KAI’s aircraft manufacturing capabilities.

Notably, Azzan Ali Abdulazeez Alsharhan Alnuaimi, Commander of the Air Force Warfare Center (AWC), personally boarded a prototype of the KF-21 to examine its latest avionics features and flight capabilities.

KAI stated that the UAE Air Force had already expressed interest in the KF-21 in 2023 and made official inquiries to the South Korean government about the jet’s development progress and performance. The company added that it plans to continue cooperating to offer the UAE the optimal next-generation fighter jet solution.

KAI President Kang Goo Young said that the UAE Air Force’s visit was an opportunity to showcase KAI’s advanced aircraft development capabilities. He emphasized that this will be a stepping stone for expanding defense industry cooperation and pledged efforts to boost exports to the Middle East and African markets.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the UAE signed a Letter of Intent with the South Korean Air Force concerning comprehensive cooperation on the KF-21. The agreement includes provisions for the UAE Air Force to observe future training exercises involving the KF-21 and visit related units.
