South Korea’s 16th Fighter Wing (16th FW) of the Republic of Korea Air Force has launched its 25-1 Combat Readiness Exercise (ORE).

The ORE, held over four days from May 12 to 15, is designed to comprehensively assess the unit’s operational readiness and combat performance while reinforcing its wartime mission execution capabilities.

The training focused on strengthening crisis response capabilities through command center-led operations against hypothetical enemy provocations, rehearsing wartime transition procedures, and enhancing mission execution under various operational scenarios. In particular, action-oriented drills simulated real combat conditions to establish the highest level of military readiness.

The exercise covered all mission domains—including flight operations, aircraft maintenance, base defense, and operational support—and incorporated a range of scenario-based drills across the entire base. These included counterterrorism training for enemy infiltration and explosives disposal, disaster response training against missile attacks, and nighttime base defense drills to ensure the survivability of personnel and assets during wartime.

Field evaluators were deployed to each exercise domain to assess key tasks, thoroughly check for and verify improvements on identified deficiencies, and carefully evaluate service members’ mission execution and real-time response capabilities.

Brigadier General Lee Won Hee, commander of the 16th Fighter Wing, stated, “This training is aimed at ensuring every unit member is capable of responding immediately and effectively in any situation.” He added, “We will maintain an unshakable military readiness posture through realistic and seamless training.”
