South Korea’s 2nd Rapid Response Division successfully concluded its competition to select the best platoon.

On Monday, the division announced, “The Best Platoon Selection Competition, held from Wednesday to Friday, successfully verified small-unit command abilities, evaluated combat capabilities, and enhanced unity and morale.”

Four platoons that passed the preliminary rounds competed in the event. The evaluation comprised three categories: combat shooting, combat fitness, and combat encounter drills. The combat shooting portion was conducted individually, with randomized target shooting to enhance realism. The combat fitness evaluation included leg tucks, a 240-meter shuttle run, and battlefield circuit exercises to assess real-world physical readiness.

The combat encounter drill used MILES (Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System) equipment for simulated engagements. Each platoon was given a training scenario and instructed to discuss and execute combat strategies. Ammunition was limited to 30 rounds per soldier, but soldiers could recover ammunition from injured or fallen comrades, simulating a real battlefield environment. This allowed soldiers to fully immerse themselves in training and showcase their honed small-unit combat skills.

The division plans to select two final platoons based on fair and rigorous evaluations. The Army Chief of Staff and the Division Commander will commend the selected platoons.

Yoo Seong Mi, a platoon leader who advanced to the finals, said, “This competition provided an opportunity to display the results of our dedicated training fully. Based on this invaluable experience of working as one team to achieve a common goal, we will complete any mission assigned to us without fail.”
