Personnel from the Republic of Korea Fleet Command and U.S. Naval Forces Korea (CNFK) conducted a maritime operational environment familiarization exercise off the coast of Busan on April 9.
This event was organized to help the U.S. Navy gain a deeper understanding of ROK Navy operations and to reinforce the strong combined defense posture of the ROK-U.S. naval alliance.
Approximately 20 ROK Fleet Command and CNFK personnel participated in the exercise. Notably, Rear Admiral Neil Koprowski, Commander of CNFK, joined the event to discuss the deployment of U.S. strategic assets and combined forces, joint ROK-U.S. naval exercises, and defense operations for key ports in Busan.
Colonel Hal Kim, Deputy Commander of CNFK, stated that “sailing alongside the ROK Navy reminds us of the essence of the steadfast ROK-U.S. alliance and their shared commitment to combined defense readiness.” He emphasized that the two navies will continue to operate as one team, contributing to a strong bilateral alliance.
Colonel Park Kyung Won, Director of the Combined Operations Coordination Office at the ROK Fleet Command, remarked that familiarization with the maritime operational environment is essential for mutual understanding between the two navies. He added that through continued exchanges and cooperation, the ROK Fleet Command and CNFK will enhance interoperability and build a solid combined defense posture.
Since relocating from Yongsan Garrison to the Busan Naval Operations Base in February 2016, CNFK has worked to carry out joint maritime operations and respond to various maritime security challenges.
