South Korea’s Air Force 15th Special Missions Wing (15th Wing) conducted a Runway Damage Repair Exercise Using Asphalt and Concrete on Wednesday at its damage restoration training site within the base, in collaboration with a civilian mobilization company.

Runway damage repair is a critical capability for Air Force engineers to ensure continued flight operations. The exercise aimed to refine wartime repair procedures and enhance coordination between military personnel and civilian contractors.

The integrated civil-military team practiced repairing craters temporarily filled with debris by covering them with asphalt during the exercise. Approximately 20 personnel from the 15th Wing’s Engineer Battalion and 10 representatives from a civilian asphalt restoration company participated, along with nine pieces of heavy equipment, including excavators and loaders.

During the training, Engineer Battalion personnel excavated the emergency-repaired runway and leveled it using heavy machinery. The mobilized civilian company then applied asphalt, restoring the runway for semi-permanent use.
