The Republic of Korea Air Force’s 16th Fighter Wing (16th FW) conducted its 25-2 Combat Readiness Exercise (ORE) from June 23 to 25.
OREs are designed to simulate all possible wartime scenarios, thereby strengthening operational execution and rapid response capabilities.
This round of training placed particular emphasis on reviewing improvements made following shortcomings identified in the previous 25-1 ORE. The exercise also focused on enhancing the troops’ mission execution capabilities and expertise by introducing scenarios that reflect the fast-evolving nature of modern warfare.
Key elements of the training included a Command Post Exercise (CPX) to improve commanders’ and staff officers’ situational awareness and decision-making, as well as a Field Training Exercise (FTX) to ensure mastery of wartime operational procedures. The drills included a simulated combat sortie in response to enemy attacks, followed by training on runway closure procedures to ensure aircraft survivability.
In addition, the unit conducted realistic scenario-based training, such as counter-terrorism operations and the installation of precision decontamination stations, to further boost air operations capabilities.
Colonel Park Ji Yeon, Commander of the Air Operations Group, stated that the training focused on strengthening mission performance so that air operations can be carried out seamlessly under any wartime condition. She added that through realistic and systematic training, the unit will firmly establish a robust state of military readiness.
