South Korea’s’ Air Force Missile Defense Command (AFMDC) conducted training exercises last Thursday to counter enemy suicide drones and held tactical discussions to enhance and refine response capabilities.
More than 20 key operational commanders and staff, including the commander, Major General Kim Joong Ho, attended the field training and tactical discussions, which were conducted at a subordinate unit of the Missile Defense Command (MDC).
The AFMDC explained that the event was organized to address the need for robust response capabilities against drone threats. Recent conflicts have demonstrated that drones are not only used for surveillance but also as offensive weapons.
The field training simulated scenarios involving enemy suicide drones. Troops honed their tactical detection, identification, and interception procedures, validating their operational readiness and combat effectiveness. The AFMDC plans to continually develop the tactics validated during the training and conduct regular, realistic drills to ensure flawless air defense operations in case of emergencies.
Colonel Lee Jung Yoon, Director of Intelligence and Operations at the AFMDC, stated, “Through the field training and tactical discussions, our personnel were able to understand the characteristics of enemy suicide drones better and verify their ability to integrate air defense weapon systems.”
