South Korea’s Army 2nd Artillery Brigade’s Cheonryong Battalion held a ceremony to commemorate 10 years of accident-free vehicle operations, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining this record.

On Monday, the Cheonryong Battalion announced, “Under the leadership of Battalion Commander Kang Seong Han, a ceremony was held on November 22 to celebrate the 10-year accident-free record of the battalion’s transport unit and recognize individuals for their contributions.” The transport unit achieved its 10-year accident-free milestone on November 22, 2024, having maintained this record since November 22, 2014.

Over the past decade, the battalion has logged approximately 900,000 kilometers of vehicle operations, equivalent to circling the Earth 20 times. During the commemorative event, Senior Master Sergeant Kim Jin Young from the multiple-launcher maintenance unit and Master Sergeant Baek Kyung In from the vehicle maintenance unit were awarded for their dedication and hard work.

The battalion boasts over 110 units of specialized and general-purpose equipment, including the K239 Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers, vehicles for fire control and support, and other tactical and transport vehicles.

Veteran maintenance personnel with at least six years of experience have ensured flawless mobility for all battalion operations, including various missions and routine activities. Additionally, vehicle operators have upheld a rigorous safety culture, contributing to the accident-free milestone.

Battalion Commander Kang stated, “The accident-free record achieved despite the challenging conditions of maneuvering large vehicles and tracked equipment on narrow roads, characteristic of artillery units, holds significant meaning. This achievement is a collective effort, made possible through everyone’s cooperation.”
