South Korea’s Army 5th Corps Special Forces Regiment soldiers have successfully completed winter training at the Korea Combat Training Center (KCTC), enhancing their combat readiness.
The Lightning Battalion, a subordinate unit of the regiment, conducted intensive training at KCTC from December 9 to 18.
Under Lieutenant Colonel Yoon Kwang Il’s command, approximately 70 soldiers focused on demonstrating their ability to defeat the enemy at any time, even in harsh winter conditions.
The soldiers repeatedly engaged in simulated battles with KCTC’s specialized opposition force regiment, proving their wartime mission capabilities.
Sergeant Park Dae Hyun, who participated in KCTC training as an enlisted soldier in the first half of the year and as a contract non-commissioned officer in the second half, stated, “In the first half, I supported the operations team, but in the second half, I directly carried out missions as part of the operations team. I was able to learn the expertise and exceptional skills of my outstanding senior comrades. I am proud to have demonstrated the spirit of the elite unit alongside my comrades in a training environment akin to a real battlefield.”
Lieutenant Colonel Yoon remarked, “Despite challenging weather conditions, including extreme cold, the determination of our battalion members to complete their missions was unwavering. Building on the strengthened teamwork gained through this training, we will execute our missions with the highest level of combat capability.”
