The South Korean Air Force Missile Defense Command (MDC) announced on Thursday that it had selected the 2024 ADA Top Gun, recognizing the best-performing air defense artillery operation teams.

The ADA Top Gun program, initiated in 2020, aims to enhance the operational capabilities and pride of air defense artillery operators who manage key systems within the Korean Air and Missile Defense (KAMD) framework, including the Cheongung, Cheongung II, and Patriot systems. This year, the program added a ballistic missile surveillance radar evaluation to strengthen readiness against missile threats further.

The first evaluation combined the results of air defense operations and training conducted throughout the year with on-site assessments supervised by the MDC.

During the on-site evaluations, teams were assessed on their ability to transport and deploy operational equipment, execute team mission procedures, conduct simulated tactical responses, and perform missile loading and unloading tasks.

In the second evaluation, eight units shortlisted from the first round were tested on their knowledge of air defense artillery operations and weapon systems and their understanding of operational guidelines through presentations of air defense operation plans.

After rigorous evaluation, Units 8921, 8331, 8622, and 8506 were recognized as the top-performing air defense artillery operation teams.

The MDC plans to award the selected teams with certificates of recognition, plaques, vacation time, and bonus points for branch-specific advanced education programs.

Colonel Baek Jang Ryeol, Chief of Exercises and Training at the MDC, said, “We were able to confirm the professionalism and confidence of frontline unit operators. The air defense operation plans presented during the evaluation demonstrated significant potential benefits, and we plan to incorporate these into future combat readiness training to enhance the operational capabilities of all units.”
