The Republic of Korea’s 4th military reconnaissance satellite is scheduled to be launched at approximately 9:48 a.m. on April 22 from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, United States. * The launch schedule is subject to change depending on conditions.
Suppose the launch of the fourth reconnaissance satellite is successful. In that case, the ROK military will be able to further shorten the revisit cycle over the Korean Peninsula through cluster operations with Satellite 1, which was fully operationalized in August 2024, and Satellites 2 and 3, which are currently progressing through operational deployment. This will enable faster and more accurate identification of potential provocations by North Korea.
Seok Jong Geon, Commissioner of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration and head of the launch management team, stated, “Following Satellite 4, we plan to launch all remaining military reconnaissance satellites by the end of this year. Once the ultra-small satellites currently under development are also launched, the ROK military will establish independent space-based capabilities and leap forward as a leading space defense force.” He added that the military will continue systematically strengthening national defense space capabilities by steadily enhancing space power.
