Shield AI, a U.S.-based artificial intelligence (AI) company specializing in autonomous aviation technology, released an official statement in response to recent reports by South Korean media. The company stated that its contract with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is entirely unrelated to the KF-21 fighter jet development program and that all procedures were conducted legally by the relevant laws of both South Korea and the United States.

Shield AI emphasized that the agreement is a private contract between two civilian companies, concluded under standard confidentiality clauses. It clearly stated that there has been no discussion or negotiation regarding the KF-21 fighter program.

The company further explained that KAI’s legal and procurement departments were fully involved throughout the process. The contract was finalized through numerous working-level meetings following proper procedural steps.

This directly refutes allegations some South Korean media outlets raised regarding procedural issues and potential links to military technology. Shield AI expressed concern over these speculative and inaccurate reports.

The company also underscored its continued commitment to collaboration with South Korea’s defense industry. Shield AI stated that it aims to contribute to South Korea’s national defense autonomy and innovation in defense technology, and plans to expand cooperation with domestic defense companies further. It added that all procedures—including the execution of the contract with KAI and the appointment of a local agent in South Korea—were carried out in full compliance with relevant laws.

Regarding its decision to appoint South Korean startup Quantum Aero as its exclusive partner, Shield AI explained that its vision, passion, and dedication matched its standards. It added that it does not select partners based on previous occupations but rather on whether they possess the passion and capability to be suitable partners for Shield AI.

Headquartered in California, Shield AI is a leading company in autonomous systems technology. It collaborates with the U.S. Department of Defense and global partners to develop cutting-edge autonomous aviation systems. The company stated that it is leading the future of autonomous technology and will continue expanding its partnerships with international allies, including South Korea.

Shield AI successfully integrated its autonomous piloting system, Hivemind, into the X-62, a modified version of the F-16 fighter jet, and has conducted successful test flights.
