The 3rd Infantry Division of the South Korean Army has organized a competition to select the best non-commissioned officer. On Tuesday, the Baekgol Artillery Brigade of the 3rd Division announced, “We held the Baekgol Artillery Best Non-Commissioned Officer Selection Competition from November 25 until today.”

This high-stakes event boosted NCO training motivation and enhanced their proficiency in equipment operation and mission execution. Fifteen of the brigade’s finest NCOs, representing four battalions, participated in the competition. The soldiers were evaluated on nine tasks across six categories: firepower equipment operation, communications systems management, and CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) gear utilization and the second week ramped up the intensity with combat fitness trials and individual weapons qualifications, pushing participants to their limits.

After intense competition, Sergeant Lee Hong Seok of the Seondol Artillery Battalion was selected as the best non-commissioned officer of the Baekgol Artillery. He will receive a commendation from the division commander and a trophy for the best non-commissioned officer, along with priority in future selections, promotions, and exemplary non-commissioned officer selections.

“This competition has significantly boosted my confidence in operating artillery equipment and executing my duties as an instructor,” Sergeant Lee remarked. “Moving forward, I’m committed to maintaining peak readiness, prepared to counter any enemy threat as a crucial component of our unit’s combat effectiveness.”

Chief Warrant Officer Lee Heon Wook, who planned the event, said, “Through this competition, we were able to enhance the professionalism and combat capabilities of the non-commissioned officers. We will continue to create various training environments to refine our non-commissioned officers.”

The Baekgol Artillery Brigade maintains its edge through monthly live-fire exercises and biannual artillery skill competitions, solidifying its reputation as an elite artillery unit.
