The South Korean Naval Air Command will participate in the multinational joint exercise Sea Dragon, which will be held near Guam from March 4 to 14.
The Sea Dragon exercise has been conducted annually since 2014 under the supervision of the U.S. 7th Fleet Command to enhance the joint ASW capabilities of maritime patrol aircraft. The South Korean Navy first observed the exercise in 2019 and has participated with a P-3 maritime patrol aircraft every year since 2020.
The 2025 exercise will include South Korea, the United States, Japan, Australia, and India. The South Korean Navy will deploy one P-3 maritime patrol aircraft and approximately 40 personnel.
Participating forces will improve their joint operational capabilities and refine ASW tactics through coordinated maritime patrol operations and simulated ASW target-tracking exercises during the exercise.
Lieutenant Colonel Jung Eun Sook, commander of the 613th Air Squadron and training director, stated, “The Sea Dragon exercise is an excellent opportunity to enhance joint ASW capabilities and refine ASW tactics among participating nations. Realistic joint training will strengthen our ability to respond to underwater threats and improve interoperability with allied air forces.”
