The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on February 6 that the Israeli Navy had successfully conducted the first test launch of the Gabriel-5 anti-ship missile.
The test was a collaborative effort involving the Israeli Navy, the Israel Defense Research and Development Directorate (DDR&D), and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). According to the IDF, the missile was launched at a simulated enemy vessel and successfully executed its detection and launch sequence.
This missile is a key weapon system enhancing the Israeli Navy’s maritime combat capabilities. The IDF stated that the test launch has significantly strengthened the Navy’s operational readiness and ability to respond effectively to evolving threats.
Brigadier General Yehuda Almakias of DDR&D commented on the successful test launch, noting that it has provided the Israeli Navy with greater operational flexibility. He highlighted that this achievement marks a significant advancement in Israel’s maritime strike capabilities and the protection of national assets and infrastructure, ultimately contributing to the safeguarding of Israeli citizens.
An Israeli Navy Captain, known as a Nacu Captain, remarked on the success of the test launch, emphasizing that it further enhanced the Navy’s strike capabilities. He praised the Israeli forces for executing the mission professionally and precisely. Additionally, he noted that the technologies related to this test launch are already being applied in real-world combat scenarios across multiple battlefields.
Boaz Levy, President of IAI, expressed pride in IAI’s role in developing the Gabriel-5 missile in collaboration with DDR&D and the Israeli Navy. He emphasized that the missile represents an advanced system unmatched by any other maritime strike platform. Levy further stated that the Gabriel-5 missile precisely hit its intended target along the planned trajectory. He affirmed IAI’s commitment to enhancing the Israeli Navy’s capabilities while developing some of the world’s most sophisticated combat systems.
