Hyundai Rotem is set to promote its manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) capabilities, which are specialized for amphibious operations, at South Korea’s largest maritime defense industry exhibition.

On Wednesday, Hyundai Rotem announced that it will participate in the International Maritime Defense Industry Exhibition (MADEX), which will be held at BEXCO in Busan from May 28 to 31. MADEX is South Korea’s largest maritime defense industry exhibition, held biennially, and the 2025 edition will feature participation from over 150 companies. This marks Hyundai Rotem’s first appearance at the event.

At MADEX, Hyundai Rotem will showcase its MUM-T technologies and products designed to support amphibious missions. Leveraging decades of expertise in ground weapon systems, the company will present products optimized for seamless operation across land and sea.

A key highlight is the HR-SHERPA, a multipurpose unmanned vehicle that exemplifies Hyundai Rotem’s MUM-T capabilities. The HR-SHERPA is an electric unmanned platform developed in-house, carrying various equipment tailored to specific missions. Since its debut in 2018, the model has undergone continuous performance enhancements, culminating in launching its latest fourth-generation version last year.

Since winning the military’s Rapid Prototype Acquisition Program for multipurpose unmanned vehicles in 2020, Hyundai Rotem has completed field trials at locations including the GOP and the DMZ. The HR-SHERPA remains the only multipurpose unmanned vehicle in South Korea to be fine-tuned for real-world deployment through direct feedback from the military.

In addition to the HR-SHERPA, Hyundai Rotem will unveil a range of products suitable for amphibious operations. These include the K2EX (K2 Export), the export variant of the K2 main battle tank, and the next-generation tank currently under development, highlighting the company’s strengths in the armored vehicle sector.

Also on display will be wheeled command post vehicles and armored ambulances—variants designed for command and medical missions, respectively, that capitalize on the mobility of Hyundai Rotem’s wheeled armored vehicles. This wide-ranging lineup aims to meet diverse operational requirements.

A Hyundai Rotem representative stated that the company has consistently advanced technologies and product lines for future MUM-T systems, including the HR-SHERPA, focusing on protecting lives. Leveraging its ground weapon system expertise, the company intends to strengthen its product competitiveness for deployment in amphibious and other challenging environments, ultimately targeting the global defense market.
