The ROK Army’s 3rd Armored Brigade Bulgom Battalion is currently conducting live-fire tank combat training at the Darakdae Scientific Training Ground in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province, simulating real combat conditions.
Running through Friday, the training emphasizes enhancing tank crews’ live-fire capabilities, tactical decision-making in near-operational environments, and inter-tank coordination. The exercise involves over 220 personnel and 75 pieces of equipment, including K1E1 main battle tanks, K1 armored recovery vehicles, and K200A1 armored personnel carriers.
The training includes non-firing maneuver drills, day and night driving exercises, zeroing-in shots, company-level force-on-force exercises, and Tank Commander Qualification Course (TCQC) drills. Among these, TCQC focuses on improving hit rates against live-range targets and boosting suppression capability both while moving and stationary. It has also contributed to strengthening crew coordination and teamwork.
Additionally, the battalion has implemented safety measures in response to rising temperatures and the nature of live ammunition exercises. Training schedules are adjusted flexibly based on heat index standards at the discretion of field commanders. All personnel received prior instruction on heat illness prevention and emergency response procedures.
